Separation of Church and State?

Doesn't it seem particularly unfortunate that a speech, by the President, intended to be broadcast and recorded in schools, where teachers are strictly forbidden from appearing to endorse a particular deity or denomination, ends with "God bless you. God Bless America"?

Surely, someone must have told him that was an unconstitutional endorsement of religion by the government?

Re: thank you!!!!
A student of mine is writing an essay on sep of church and state and we've been discussing it, so it's been on my mind. I hate it when he does it normally, but one just might be able to argue that with adults one can "tell" it's a personal belief and not a political statement, but with kids, I don't think you can make that kind of argument and more caution is warranted.

But it obviously never occurred to someone.
