jekyll

prayer

A student recently asked me how well he needed to do on the final exam in order to pass the course. So, naturally, not having my gradebook in front of me, I asked him what his current average was.

58, he says.

Okay. I do a little quick math and inform him he basically needs something like a 98 to pass.

Not the news he wanted, I'm sure.

So after acknowledging that he'd been blowing off the class--and he certainly had!--he told me he was going to "pray on it".

I really wanted to point out the ineffectiveness of that strategy, but I guess we'll see what happens next week, no?

Oh, on an unrelated note, I considered posting about how ridiculous the new Catholic mortal sins were, but decided against it. I grew up with these loons. There is little they can do that surprises me. And besides, what else could I say that hasn't already been said? Genetic manipulation? Where is that exactly? Deuterotomy?
