Highest elected atheist

The Secular Coalition for America found the highest ranking elected official in the country: Rep. Pete Stark, D-California. He's been a member of Congress almost as long as I've been alive, but I'd be interested in seeing whether or not the religious right trots out his lack of religion in the next campaign.

Of note in the press release was this paragraph:

In addition to Rep. Stark only three other elected officials agreed to do so: Terry S. Doran, president of the School Board in Berkeley, Calif.; Nancy Glista on the School Committee in Franklin, Maine; and Michael Cerone, a Town Meeting Member from Arlington, Mass.

That's it? Four atheists in the entire government in the entire country? Four out of 30 million? No wonder the rest of the civilized world looks at us like we are backwards.
