a Nebraskan steps forward

From The Secular Coalition for America:

Apr. 2, 2007 - Nebraska State Sen. Ernie Chambers has confirmed his nontheism to the Secular Coalition for America. Sen. Chambers, who holds the record for longest tenure in the Nebraska Senate, now becomes the second highest level public servant to self-identify with our community, joining the ranks of U.S. Rep. Pete Stark and three local level elected officials.

He's either brave or retiring. I mean, he has been in there 37 years. On the Newsweek poll I posted last, almost half of Americans say they don't know any atheists (that's not counting the 'don't know's). I guess they are going to have to rethink that.
